  • Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a genetic disorder characterized by high cholesterol levels, specifically very high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL cholesterol), and most often caused by a defect in 3 different genes (LDL-receptor gene, PCSK 9 gene and Apo B gene). As the FH affects the way the body processes cholesterol, people with FH have a higher risk of heart disease and a greater risk of early heart attack. In this plenary lecture, the world renowned expert in FH research, Professor Brian Tomlinson from Macau University of Science and Technology, Macau, China will provide us with beautiful insights and future perspectives in the field of diagnosis and treatment of FH.

Non-Atherosclerotic, Non-Cardioembolic Cerebral Infarction

Organizer : Sang-Mi Noh (The Catholic University of Korea, Korea)

  • Ischemic stroke is a disease with a variety of etiologies. Most of its cases are due to atherosclerosis which is influenced by traditional vascular risk factors such as diabetes and hypertension or, due to high-risk cardio-embolic sources such as atrial fibrillation.
  • There are well-established guidelines and extensive research concerning the causes and treatment of these types of strokes. In this session, we aim to share the latest research and clinical experiences on non-atherosclerotic, non-cardio-embolic stroke which are rare, yet require different therapeutic approaches.
